XFX Radeon HD 5770 Awarded 5 out of 5

You may remember the review that we did on the XFX Radeon HD5750 1GB graphics card a few days ago, and now we have taken a look at it’s bigger brother, the HD5770. In many ways it’s similar due to having the latest technologies and the same GPU as the 5750, but with a little bit more raw power squeezed out. It features a fully covered heatsink design and uses one PCI-Express power adapter as it has low power consumption. It also gives the ability for multiple graphics card configurations in CrossFireX. This card is perfect for the average gamer, giving fantastic looking graphics and performance to boot, and with not much of a price difference between this and it’s sibling (the HD5750), value for money is spot on and you’d be a fool not to put this in your short list when upgrading your graphics card. That’s why i’m giving this graphics card 5 out of 5 stars.

XFX HD 5770 XXX is part of XFX's XXX series, which means that it had increased frequencies right from the factory. Usually, one can ask whether it is worthwhile to buy these Through a special editions, it's usually not any problem to achieve the same levels with the usual cards. But in this case, the price differs so little, plus the XFX card clocked higher than the other cards. It may be that the nucleus of XFX's XXX Card is specially selected, just as they must cope with higher frequencies.

this card represents a huge leap forward for a marketplace that is looking for more budget-minded solutions without extravagant price tags. In this respect, we find that ATI fit all the right pieces into place in order to balance out performance, efficiency and pricing. The mere fact that we can mention this $160 card’s performance in the same sentence as that of the GTX 260 216 really does say a lot about what ATI has accomplished in such a short time. In one sweep, the HD 5770 has cut the legs right out from under the GTS 250 series and has given the GTX 260 216 a black eye. That’s impressive stuff to say the least... When it comes to the HD 5770 1GB, there is simply nothing else on the market today which features this kind of performance and efficiency in the sub-$200 category. Period.

The Radeon 5700 series relies on much of the same technological prowess that makes the 5800-series so profoundly popular right now, however, has a few cut-backs which help keep it very affordable. The Radeon series of GPUs simply offer stellar performance at each of their respective price levels... An area that these cards clearly excel at is the area of power use and heat – at no time in my period of testing them did the cooling fans ever get past a “barely there” audible range. There was never tons of heat blowing out the back as we’ve seen on other cards and the overall power-use is very remarkable.

There are many positive aspects when looking at the 5750 and 5770. First of all they feature full DirectX 11 and DirectCompute 11 support. Next we have some great power consumption figures which drop as low as 16w when idle and then we have the great media features. It is hard to fault a card which supports Blu-Ray acceleration, HDMI 1.3, HDCP, DTS Master Audio and Dolby True HD in addition to DirectX11, especially for under £110 (5750 RRP).

Where XFX do offer something better than the competition is in their online support. Anyone who requires assistance with their graphics card can log-on to the XFX website and chat live to support staff rather than have to email and wait for a response.ATI now have a product range available which makes it hard to recommend any other product from £100/$130 upwards. We can’t wait to see what they have in store for their budget range.
